*****Fresh from the Forge******Ark News Segment

  • Pix Ark by Snail Games http://store.steampowered.com/app/593600/PixARK/ is coming out on steam this month!

    • Welcome to PixARK, a vast, wild world filled with vicious dinosaurs, magical creatures and endless adventure! To survive in this mysterious land, you must tame creatures both ferocious and cuddly, craft high tech and magical tools, and build your own base out of cubes.
    • With a robust character creator, an infinite number of voxel based maps and procedurally generated quests, your PixARK adventure will be completely unique. Team up with friends to form a tribe, or play on your own. Spend your time building a towering fortress or go on a quest in a sprawling cavern. Fly on the back of a dragon and smite your enemies with a magic wand, or ride a mighty T-Rex and blast your foes with a rocket launcher. In the world of PixARK, how you play is up to you – as long as you survive!
    • Pix Ark Info from an Interview between Player One and : Snail Games Executive Producer Peter : Kanghttp://www.player.one/pixark-producer-simplicity-solve-ark-problems-124318
      • PixARK also differs from its predecessor by making conscious attempts to be less of a time sink. A typical 12-hour wait to tame a Giga, for example, will be just a few minutes long in PixARK, (yay!!!) and a two-hour trip to restock gasoline will be replicated as a 15-minute diversion. This short-burst philosophy ties into Dino ownership too. Unlike Survival Evolved, tames in PixARK will only last for a maximum of three days.  It’s a tweak that Kang feels will rectify one of ARK’s biggest design flaws. He envisions a path that makes dinosaurs easier to tame but with a limited duration gain.

“We felt like the whole dinosaur-farm concept was a poor design choice because it encouraged players to stockpile hundreds of dinosaurs for no reason. It created this scenario where players felt compelled to go online and feed the dinosaurs or they would die,” he said. “Having an attachment to your dinosaurs is great, (SHE CUT OUT HERE!!)  but it'd be a lot more fun if you had to tame raid-focused dinosaurs before each raid,” he explained.

In this way, PixARK strives to address lasting issues that both Snail Games and Studio Wildcard acknowledged during the upcoming game’s development process. What you’re getting with PixARK, then, is a game built as an homage to Minecraft that encapsulates only the best and most digestible parts of Survival Evolved.
    • PixArk on Switch:
  • Criikette: This made me think of another game coming out (http://www.arkparkvr.com/).  I don’t have more info on it atm, but I’ll look into it.  I will mention it in a second when we finish talking PixArk.
  • Changes in Ark Catch up!
    • On the 10th of February, turrets were hard-number limited to 100. This means that you will not be able to build over 100 turrets within a 10k unit radius, however existing set-ups with over 100 turrets will still function as normal until the 18th of February when we will enable the hard limit, which will retroactively disable (randomly selected) turrets that are over the 100 limit from functioning. Here's the patch note for the turret changes when they land on the 18th:
    • Monday February 26, 2018 https://survivetheark.com/index.php?/articles.html/community-crunch-120-arkpocalypse-servers-r693/
    • Extinction Servers are now called Arkpocolypse Servers.
  • They will be off-lining some additional Legacy servers on March 9th. If you are a player on the Official Legacy Server Network please read the full post at the link below for more information as well as a list of which Legacy servers are being taken down permanently.
  • Fortitude now provides some resistance versus the effects of the Rex Roar, and this resistance carries onto player-ridden dinos too.
  • The Giga is no longer raged by fall damage
  • Cooldown added to tribe's changing their name ( I looked and I can not find any time given and have seen a lot of complaints where they cant change the tribe name at all atm.)
  • A common question from Primitive Plus fans is about the lack of content on Scorched Earth and Aberration. For TLC Patch #2 in March, they will finally be properly introducing the content to these maps so that Primitive fans will be able to take full advantage of the gamemode on these maps.

Willektron: A bit of “old news” - Dino TLC-pass Phase 1

Dino TLC - The Procoptodon!

- Receives a model update, animation update, sound pass, and some new abilities:
- Will take reduced fall damage
- Carry weight will be noticeably increased
- Can carry small creatures and baby dinos in its pouch
- A knockback kick which can affect significantly larger dinos
- Added an aimed jump which can be used by holding down the Jump key
- Carried characters in a pouch have reduced food consumption rate when carried by Mate-Boosted Female Procoptodons. (such an odd choice to make it so specific!)
- Babies imprinted while in a carried Procoptodon pouch receive more affinity

SITY READS Dino TLC - The Gigantopithecus A.K.A Bigfoot!
(interesting note: King Louie in the live action Jungle Book movie from a few years back was a Gigantopithecus, as per his song.  And voiced by the great Christopher Walken)

- Receives a model update, animation update, new fur, sound pass and some new abilities:
- The Bigfoot will receive an armour-degrading attack; this means when it fights, it'll do more damage to your armour's durability. It is important to note that the armour-degrading attack will not affect the Yeti creatures found in the game.
- Added the capability to climb ziplines (but not jump between them)
- Added a jump
- It can now carry and throw small creatures
- Throwing has been made more accurate, similarly to crabs with targeting cursor

The Aberrant Brute squad in training

FOERENDER READS Dino TLC - The Direbear!

- Receives a model update, animation update, new fur and some new abilities:
- When riding a Direbear, players will be immune to bees. They won't be able to knock you off your bear, and they will target focus the bear instead of the player.
- The Direbear will also be able to harvest honey from wild beehives without attracting bees or hurting the hive using it's alternative attack. Plus the amount of honey it receives will be 3x the standard amount.
- Increased swim speed

Crikette Reads Dino TLC - The Direwolf!

- Receives a model update, animation update, new fur and some new abilities:
- Howl now activates a pack buff for 90 seconds (with a 1.5 minute cooldown). When the Alpha howls, the pack also howls. The pack buff strengthens the Alpha, as well as its pack (reduced amount vs Alpha)
- Hunter's Instinct passive buff which will allow it to sniff out people/creatures with less than 50% health
- Sniff tertiary ability to indicate nearby explorer notes, or to detect buried/stealth creatures

Fell Reads Dino TLC - The Rex!

- Receives a model update, animation update,  and some new abilities:
- Its roar should receive a CD and make non-allies (under a certain dragweight) poop to act as a small stun/interrupt. There will be a cooldown on victims so that they cannot be pooplocked continuously.
- The roar will not be able to scare anything above its level
- Roar will cause players to poop but not stun them
- Rex's ability to climb over small rocks and steeper slopes have been improved.

Esme : Incase you want to watch it! Pretty cool! Dino TLC Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1T-fyt8Hvg

Dear Diary,

I've done many things in Ark; sailed the seas, flown through the skies, stalked the lands, and been killed hundreds of times along the way. I decided it was time to hatch my first wyvern. I know that many of my fellow survivors have done this many times with ease. I can now put wyvern hatching on my long list of things I'm not good at. Firstly, stealing eggs while flying a pteranodon is extremely difficult. Once I stole an egg, I got back to base and promptly ate it. I had to go back and get another one. Then, I had trouble hatching it. I didn't have air conditioners, and so lazily settled for campfires. I got stuck on them, and burnt to death. This happened twice, then finally my wyvern hatched. Thankfully I raised it without a problem. I went into this endeavour hoping to spice up my life, and boy did I get what I wished for!

Yours truly,

****Dino Spotlight with Goon and Esme**** (Criikette adding his $.02)

Dino Name:    BASILISK

What are they? An Aggressive Carnivore that waits hidden underground for its prey to approach before it springs out in ambush. It can be seen before it attacks by noticing the dirt pile with 3 tentacles (tail spikes) sticking out.  They have a poison spit attack that releases a cloud of poison.  Hazmat and gas mask both seem to block this extra damage.

Goon in green How to Tame:

Do Do Dex User Tip : Get yourself a Rock Drake, Karkinos, Spinosaurus or any other creature usually ignored by this creature, dismount to gain its attention and mount again; Drop the (Fertilized) Rock Drake Egg from YOUR inventory and proceed to circle the Basilisk until it loses interest on you. Wait for the feeding interval to end, repeat.

They are a passive tame, preferred food is the fertilized Rock Drake Egg (think this is the only food it eats)

They can be found:

  • On The Aberration Map
  • Spawns at an uncommon rate in The Portal and rarely in The Edge areas.

They can Damage Thatch and Wood.

GOON: Dododex user tips:

1-“Aberration survival rule #1: if you see a strange "v" in the ground, run for your life and don't look back”

ESME 2- “When it is underground it does use stamina which means it can not be underground permanently, it is extremely fast when it is underground and untargetable, and when underground it will be blocked by structures such as, walls, foundations, rocks, etc.”

Criikette Other tip:

1 - When you are riding it underground, you are using your oxygen up.  ‘Don’t get drown’d when underground.’

2 - Be careful as users have reported basilisks falling under the mesh when burrowing on lake/water floors.

*****Felloons Admin Tip******

Tip:We thought it might be nice to add a series on Admin duties, tools and server setup so I’ve worked out a series on that topic.

  1. What does it mean to be an admin?

    1. This is obviously my opinion and how I try to model myself as an admin, and really is what I liked most about the various admins that I have been around.
    2. You serve the community.
      1. People still get stuck, have dino issues or the game glitches and you need to get their stuff back.
    3. TIP: if someone is stuck or their dino is stuck, it's easier to get their dino back if they are mounted - then admin teleport that player to you. (use showmyadminmanager)

  • You do not have to add anything if you have nothing to add.
  • There can be more than one tip under a section, just not one host with multiple tips.

****Punching Trees*****

Do you have a tip for a new player? Share it below:

Goon: Build a raft

When you first arrive on the beach, a lot of people start building a shack, which is smart, but when you reach level 16 consider building yourself a raft. The raft takes you away from a majority of dangerous dinos, but it also makes for a great starter house. With it you can go around and get mats a lot easier, and when being chased it makes for a quick get away. You can put foundations down and make a nice shack, with all the crafting tables and forges to get you on a solid start. Just remember not to venture to far out into the water, the Leedsichthys will actively destroy them.

  • they have 88 structure limit (Esme discovered that they have a height limit too!)
  • You cannot reverse
  • You can hide the sail by pressing and holding the E-key
  • If you get stuck, look under it for a rock or log
  • Animals with that can use platform saddles will not stay on it, they slide right off

*****Pimp my Hut*****
Do you have a Building Tip, Tricks, Etc that you would like to share? Are you working on a building project? Have an idea for a building project? Share it here!

Willektron: Snap points for buildings

  • This is limited to S+, as far as I could tell
  • When you’re building a multiple story building, and you’re placing walls for the second story or above, it can place unevenly (some are lower or higher than others, by a small amount)
  • This is because both the ceiling and the top of the wall just below it have snap points, and it’s something of a toss-up which one your new wall will pick to snap to; it doesn’t always build in the place the hologram shows
  • If you want it to be flush with the top of the wall below, build the third level of wall before placing the ceiling - this is the most consistent overall
  • If you want your building to be just a bit taller, then this method works, but it’s not quite as straightforward: use pillars to place the ceilings before the wall below, place walls on top of the ceilings, then build the wall in below the ceilings. Unfortunately, with this method, it’s a toss-up whether the walls below will decide to snap to the bottom of your ceiling, or the bottom of the wall above it, so really you have the same issue, but it’s a little less noticeable with the order you’re building in
  • This is not an issue with vanilla structures. The positioning of the walls is the same whether you’re placing on top of a ceiling or another wall; regardless of the order you build in, everything is flush

*****Taming Pen*****

  • Cover info on one creature on the island.
  • Do you have any Taming Tricks to share? A Taming Tip?

SITY: Gear Up man:

What does everyone wear?  I wear a combo of gear for daily stuff - with a shield, but have FUR for ICE and GHILLIE for like Honey (until I get a bear)  and for sneaking up on Tapajara’s

Criikette note: I usually get one or two really good pieces of ghillie/desert (usually helmet and boots) to wear alongside my flak/riot.  These can provide enough hyperthermal insulation to prevent being hot in the majority of climates.  I don’t normally carry a shield as they are quite heavy, but I always have one at base in case I’m doing something that needs one.

Do you guys change for a particular scenarios?  Taming certain Dino requires certain armor or protection,it really helps.  Along with saddle upgrades for dinos.

Do you want to share something you would like to see changed or something you have seen that the community seems to dislike?

Felloon: 10s CD on glider.. Is really just the straw that broke the camel’s back. I wish when Wildcard changes something for pvp balance they would leave an ini file out for the folks that didn't want to live in whinnersville...

*****Damn E Key******
Did you do something full of fail this week? Maybe hit the E key again? Share it here!

*****Dino Sutra*****

Do you have a tip regarding taming?  Maybe a certain dino that you just can’t get enough of?  Share it here!

Criikette: S+ Mutator

Since we’re using the S+ mod set, we have access to the Mutator and Hitching Post.  What this does is sends out a pulse that lasts for 5 minutes(?) and any dino conceived (egg laid or mammalian pregnant) during this time will have a guaranteed mutation (or multiple).  It costs 10 element for a pulse so it’s not cheap (even with our increased rates), so I try to maximize the effect of this.  What this means is that I try to prep as many dinos to mate during the time as I can.  In order to make it quicker to get all the dinos to start mating “on cue” as opposed to having to go and set them to wander, I utilize the fact that they will not start to mate if they are on wander AND on follow.  The hitching post allows us to set a dino to wander but not have them move.  So I set them all to wander and follow me.  Then after I hit the mutation pulse, I whistle “All stop” (default U), and they will start to mate.  My plan using this same strategy to make it even easier is to set up a breeding bin outside of my normal base where I can safely use the dreaded and dangerous whistle “All follow” (default J).  This way, I can set them up to all follow with one key and not worry about messing up my base.  Other variations that I have plans for and will be testing out would be to sit on a dino and whistle All follow so that I can keep them on wander at all times, but they will only mate when I want them to (useful to not have unclaimed dinos wandering around).  Also, using the tame groups (Add class to group) and the “ignore group whistles” is useful to be able to use the J key but only affect the dinos that you want.
